Information Services (I/S) Storage Management is looking for a highly motivated, technology driven, team oriented, individual with strong communication skills to work in a highly diverse and dynamic work environment. Individuals in this position have deep technical skills within a single domain and some breadth of knowledge across domains. They typically perform moderately complex systems activities independently within a single domain, but are occasionally inter-domain. In order to build a balanced organization with complementary skills, positions in this job family vary in the depth of technical skills and the breadth of knowledge, skills and competencies beyond one technology domain.

The Systems Engineer is responsible for the administration and maintenance of highly available, enterprise level storage systems across the division in multiple geographically dispersed data centers. These storage systems support a range of mission critical production applications and databases as well as disaster recovery, performance/test, staging, Dev/QA and other non-productions environments. The Systems Engineer will also be responsible for researching, designing and documenting the Storage Network. In addition, proactively size and advise management to extend resources as deemed appropriate to support current and future storage growth.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Management and troubleshooting of multiple, highly available 24x7 storage environments including Open Systems Storage and Mainframe Storage Pools.

  • Performs storage administration functions including storage allocation/de-allocation, utilization reporting, performance monitoring/tuning, trending, data migration, data deletion and capacity planning.

  • Evaluate new technologies and recommend future direction of storage infrastructure.

  • Configures new hardware and storage management software products.

  • Maintenance of storage hardware and associated software at top levels of performance by monitoring version upgrades and maintenance releases to ensure that environment is optimally configured.

  • Creates operational procedures and documentation.

  • Consults with other internal IT teams (database administrators, systems administrators, application engineers, etc) on storage solutions.

  • Works within change management process to ensure that outages are scheduled to minimize impact on clients, but still maintain all hardware and software at optimal levels.

  • Capacity Planning, collection of data for annual and interim capacity plans forecasting resource requirements, service levels (SAS Programming required).

  • Manage relationships with multiple storage vendors.

  • Maintain disaster recovery documentation and support.

  • This position requires sitting over 66% of the time.

  • This position requires Visual Acuity at 20 inches (or less) over 66% of the time.

  • Weekend work and on-call rotation required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ Years of Experience or knowledge required in the following technologies: Storage Area Network (specifically IBM), Network. Attached Storage (Network Appliance), SAN/NAS management, IBM Mainframe Storage and monitoring tools.

  • Experience with IBM DS4700/5300/8100/8300/8700/8800, XIV Storage.

  • Experience with IBM Flashcopy, Metro Mirror, Global Mirror.

  • Experience with IBM Data Facility Hierarchical Storage Manager (DFHSM).

  • Experience with IBM Data Facility Storage Management Subsystem/Advance Copy Services (DFSMS/ACS).

  • Experience with IBM SAN Volume Controller (SVC).

  • Experience with IBM Tivoli Productivity Center (TPC).

  • Experience with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM).

  • Experience with IBM ProtecTIER Deduplication Appliance.

  • Experience with IBM 3584 LTO Tape Library.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Brocade DCFM Manager.

  • Experience with Brocade SAN Switches for Mainframe and Open systems.

  • Knowledge of SAS.

  • Knowledge of VSAM/IAM, JCL, IDCAMS.

  • Knowledge of Computer Associate CA1 Tape Management System.

  • Knowledge of FDR (Fast Dump Restore)/Data facility data set services (DFDSS).
